Fairfield Electric Cooperative Inc. Franchise Fee

It has been brought to our attention that Fairfield Electric Cooperative, Inc. recently imposed a new charge on their customer’s billing statements labeled as “Franchise Fee”. We would like to clarify that this is not due to an increase or a new fee that the Town of Elgin has implemented. A franchise fee has been in place with all such entities operating and/or providing services within the town limits for several years.

During a recent conversation with a representative of the organization, we were informed that this is a new charge/fee for the customers of Fairfield Electric Cooperative Inc. in town and was imposed by new management of the utility provider. The Town of Elgin was not notified of the new fee prior to this and had that been the case, we would have been provided the opportunity to notify our residents. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused individuals living in our community.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Elgin Town Hall at 803-438-2362 or Fairfield Electric Cooperative Inc. at 803-754-0153, 803-635-4621, 803-425-1059 or toll free in South Carolina at 1-800-499-7862.

I have been with Fairfield Electric for approximately 46 years. Do not regret it for a minute. The best, lowest and most efficient power company in the state. Thank you so much.
