School Registration for Kershaw County

It’s hard to believe that it is almost time to say goodbye to Summer and start cracking the books, but as sad as it is, that time is just around the corner.  The Kershaw County School District will be holding registration later this month and you will find the information below:

School district registration to be held July 24-25; SEAGUL registration to be included with regular summer registration     June 26, 2012

All Kershaw County School District students and parents – both new and returning – should plan to attend registration at their children’s schools in July.

All elementary and middle schools will register students on Tuesday, July 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m.

For high schools, the following schedule applies from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.:

Camden High:
July 24-25 (all grades both days)
Continuous Learning Center:
July 24 (all grades)
Lugoff-Elgin High:
July 24 (grades 9-12, last name beginning with A-K);
July 25 (grades 9-12, last name beginning with L-Z)
North Central High:
July 24 (grades 9-10); July 25 (grades 11-12)

A change this school year is that parents of SEAGUL students will register them for the district’s elementary/middle gifted and talented program during this summer registration; there will not be a separate SEAGUL registration.

“We continue to streamline the paperwork process for our school registration dates,” said Kershaw County School District Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan. “Parents have asked us to make all the paperwork available in advance and to reduce duplicate requests. We think that allowing parents of SEAGUL students to take care of that registration at the same time they are doing the regular school registration will be part of our efforts to make this easier for parents.”

Morgan said the forms are accessible under the Parents Section at www.kershaw.k12.sc.us. “Parents can download these forms and bring the completed ones with them. This really helps cut down on the amount of time that persons have to spend at registration, especially if they have children in more than one school.”

New this school year is the ability for parents to complete free and reduced meal applications online. The application for 2012-13 will be available on the district’s website starting July 2.

Forms will be available at the schools if persons do not download them in advance.

The superintendent also said that all schools will have registration forms for returning students with information from the 2011-12 school year so that parents can update materials as opposed to having to complete them from scratch.

Registrations are held to verify student enrollment and to share information with students and parents concerning class assignments, bus routes, lunch programs, school rules and regulations and other information about the upcoming school year.

Again this school year, a fee schedule has been implemented due to reduced local and state revenue. Fees will be assessed according to a student’s meal status as stated below:

Full Reduced Free

Incidental Fee $30 $9 0
SEAGUL $25 $7.50 0

Kershaw County School Board policy requires parents to bring to registration the following documents to enroll a student for the first time: a copy of the child’s birth certificate, the child’s South Carolina Certificate of Immunization, a parent/guardian’s valid South Carolina driver’s license, a tax document with the current and correct address, a check stub with the current and correct address, either a mortgage or lease agreement or legally notarized documentation from the landlord and a current (two months or less) utility bill (electric or water) that contains the student’s address. A child’s registration will not be complete without this documentation.

Parents of returning students who have already established the student’s residency will be required to provide a current (two months or less) utility bill (electric or water) that contains the student’s address in order to register.

Parents are reminded that immunization requirements for school are mandated by South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Students who do not have or have not previously presented a S.C. Certification of Immunization that indicates they have completed or begun the immunization requirements will not be allowed to register. Shots and the immunization certificate may be obtained through the student’s physician or the Kershaw County Health Department.

Information about the schedule of immunizations required by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control for the 2012-2013 school year can be accessed on the DHEC website. Parents who have questions or are unsure of their child’s immunization status should ask their child’s physician, health department or school nurse.

Persons who are unable to register on the indicated day should contact their school’s office prior to Aug. 20, the first day of school for students.
