ELGIN TOWN COUNCIL MEETING

MINUTES FOR October 2, 2018

 

CALL TO ORDER

 

The monthly meeting of the Elgin Town Council was held Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 6:00pm with Mayor Melissa Emmons presiding.

 

ROLL CALL

 

Present were Councilman Edward Smith, Councilman Brad Hanley, Councilwoman Naomi Eyers, Councilwoman Candy Silvers and Mayor Melissa Emmons

 

 

INVOCATION

 

Mayor Melissa Emmons gave the invocation.

 

 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

Councilman Brad Hanley led Town Council and all others attending the meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance

 

Council held a surprise presentation for Harold Brown to celebrate his 25 years of service to the Elgin Community as Police Chief of the Elgin Police Department. 

 

ACCEPTANCE OF SEPTEMBER 4, 2018 MEETING MINUTES

A motion was made by Councilman Brad Hanley to accept the September 4th minutes with a 2nd motion by Councilman Ed Smith, without further discussion and a unanimous vote.

OLD BUSINESS

 

COMMITTEE MEETING BREIFING

  • Dana Sloan- Potter Community Park Update- informed Council that benches are ready to be ordered for the park and they will cost $500.00 per bench and they would like to purchase a minimum of 12 to be placed around the park in various locations. The benches are available to be purchased in Memory/Honor of someone and order forms are available at Town Hall

NEW BUSINESS

Mayor Emmons – Made a request upon advisement from Chief Brown that Council consider purchasing replacement bulbs for existing fixtures and additional Christmas Light Fixtures prior to the holiday season.  After some discussion, Council approved a budget of $2500.00 for the bulbs and fixtures to be placed throughout town. A motion was made by Councilwoman Candy Silvers to accept the budget with a 2nd motion by Councilman Brad Hanley, without further discussion and a unanimous vote.

COUNCIL BRIEFING

  • Councilman Ed Smith – expressed gratitude to Harmony Baptist Church for their recent tokens of appreciation that were provided to the Elgin Police Department and Elgin Town Hall. Requested that Council receive copies of the monthly credit card statement and Bank Reconciliation Reports in their packets.
  • Councilman Brad Handley – expressed gratitude to Harmony Baptist Church and gave an update regarding Santee Lynches Council of Governments SC Works Program.
  • Councilwoman Naomi Eyers – expressed gratitude to Harmony Baptist Church.
  • Councilwoman Candy Silversexpressed gratitude to Harmony Baptist Church.
  • Mayor Emmons – expressed gratitude to Harmony Baptist Church, also invited Council to a Blessing Box Dedication at Family Dollar later in the evening as Girl Scout Troop 968 installed the box that they built and filled with food from a recent canned food drive that had been held earlier in the day.
  • Town Attorney, John Wells – Had nothing to report.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 6:36 pm by Councilman Brad Hanley with a 2nd motion by Councilwoman Candy Silvers, without further discussion and a unanimous vote.
