The monthly meeting of the Elgin Town Council was held Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with Mayor Brad Hanley presiding. All council members were present.
Invocation was given by Melissa Emmons and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Hanley.
Mayor Hanley recognized a new business license: Sor Sumrit Muay Thai (a martial arts school).
A motion was made by Councilwoman Melissa Emmons to approve the May minutes (regular and special), 2nd by Councilman Ed Smith with a unanimous vote.
Mayor Hanley reviewed the financial information highlighting the Police fines and the Local Option Sales Tax revenue.
Mayor Hanley then presented Mr. Joe Tate with the Mayor’s Patriotism Award and a standing ovation from all people in attendance, recognizing the recent Silver Star Medal that Mr. Tate received from the U.S. Armed Forces for his bravery under fire in Vietnam 45 years ago.
1st Reading – Personnel manual change – amending the 1st year employee vacation accrual in the 1st year. Motion by Melissa Emmons to make the change, 2nd by Dana Sloan. Unanimous vote.
Mutual Aid Agreement with Kershaw and Richland County was motioned by Ed Smith to accept, 2nd by Dana Sloan. Unanimous vote.
May Complaints reviewed.
Beth Hyman has been selected as the new Town Clerk/Clerk of Court and she will begin work on July 13th, 2013.
Special Election for 1 council seat will be held June 18th, with the newly elected person to take the oath at the July meeting.
Council was reminded of Judy’s retirement party on June 15th at 7 p.m.
