The monthly meeting of the Elgin Town Council was held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at theElginTown Hallwith Mayor Brad Hanley presiding. All council members were present. Invocation by Melissa Emmons and Pledge of Allegiance led by Larry Risvold followed.
Motion to approve the December minutes by Larry Risvold, 2nd by Melissa Emmons. Unanimous.
Financial Information: Mayor Hanley gave overview of the Local Option Sales Tax and Police Fines.
Mr. Rod Dooley (Dooley & Company) presented a review of the 2010-2011 Town Audit.
Mayor Hanley presented plaques and recognized two employees for 15 years of service to the Town: Ed Hines & Kathy Brown
Mayor Hanley – presented to council a contract for the remodeling of the old fire department. A workshop to discuss the contract will be set at a later date. Councilwoman Emmons motioned to sign and move forward with the contract for renovation. 2nd by Norman Ernst. Some discussion followed as Councilman Risvold disagreed about the emergency situation of the contract. The General Contractor (Chaise Builders) is using allElgin labor and sub-contractors. Vote was unanimous.
Councilman Ernst noted that the Town Hall office needed a scanner.Anna Chason – Elgin Centennial Committee name has been changed to the Elgin Historical Society, and that they were still in need of a space for a museum.
Mr. Dean Cook spoke to Council about “making money forElgin”. His idea is to have a musical talent program that would bring people intoElgin.
